Kelly Roberts, M.Ed, LMHC, LPC

Master's in Education  |  Licensed Mental Health Counselor (FL) & Professional Counselor (MO, TX)

I have spent time in family therapy as a teenager with my mother, as a young adult overcoming emotional eating, premarital therapy, marital therapy, and for anxiety as a young adult. I have been involved with GriefShare, a grief recovery support group, as I grieved the death of a close family member. I currently am in a Divorce Care support group, as I go through a divorce. I know what it’s like to be both the receiver and the giver of therapy! I want to give to my clients what my counselors have given me: to feel heard, to have hope, to provide empathy and understanding and words of Wisdom. These qualities are what I, as a Christian therapist, can give to help my clients work through their difficulties and struggles.

My Story

I was born in a suburb of Chicago, IL, lived in Tulsa, OK, and was raised in Arlington, TX. I was a sensitive, yet social child, seeking out people and solitude. When I was 15, my best friend was killed in a car accident and this loss led me to become active in the church and in my Christian faith. In college I obtained my Bachelor of Arts in Psychology at the University of Texas at Austin. I then worked in childcare, pet sitting, and with Southwest Airlines. Next, I attended the University of North Texas where I obtained my Master’s Degree in Education. For advanced Biblical education, I took classes at Covenant Theological Seminary in St. Louis and Liberty University.

At this point I had a one-year-old and I took the next twelve years to raise her and her two younger brothers. (It was also at this time that I lost 30 pounds and have kept it off!) I homeschooled my children for a few years, was a pastor’s wife, helped my husband with his faith-based business and enjoyed being a stay at home mom.

From 2011-2014 I was a school counselor for a K-8th grade Christian school. In 2014, I opened my own private practice in Union, MO. The years of 2011-2014 were rewarding and challenging as I became a school counselor, widow, single mother, new wife and stepmom, moved to a new town, and started my own business.

I lived in Union, MO from 2012-2020 and moved to Nocatee/Ponte Vedra, FL in May 2020 when my youngest son graduated from high school and entered the army.

When there was news of my first grandchild being born, we put the FL home on the market and moved back to Texas, to Waxahachie.

My latest opportunity to "count it all joy," is healing from betrayal. As a result of my marriage ending, I moved to Arlington, to be near my family. I am moving forward. Life is hard! God is good!! With God's help, "One thing I do: forgetting what lies behind and reaching forward to what lies ahead. I press on toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus" (Phil. 3:13-14).

I enjoy the outdoors, walking, gardening, and being with family and friends. I joined Fellowship Church in Grapevine, Texas, where I attended Divorce Care support group and I look forward to getting involved with my new church family.

Currently, I am a member of the Association of Biblical Counselors, and a verified counselor for Focus on the Family, New Life Ministries, Christian Counselors of Texas and the Greater Arlington Chamber of Commerce.
